Before submitting, I believed that the article should be innovative enough, but the research group was relatively unknown in the field, and the boss did not have prominent achievements. After reading many reviews, I felt the probability was not high. However, I still decided to give it a try and submitted it.

I submitted it around December 24, 2021, and didn't receive the review comments until the end of February the following year. I thought it was probably rejected since it took so long. It went through minor revisions, major revisions, and one rejection, but the reviewers' comments were clear and there was no malicious rejection. I conducted additional experiments for over a month, and in the end, the article was accepted.

The questions raised by the reviewers were very relevant to practical applications. I hope my experience can serve as a reference for everyone. Anything is possible!

The editor is Lulu Ma. I checked and found that she has no understanding of the material I am working on. She directly rejected my submission without sending it for review. It is purely a relationship-based journal, affiliated with Wiley's AM, AEM, Angew. I sincerely advise everyone that if you are not part of a prestigious group or do not know the editor personally, don't expect to have your submission reviewed. Editors are not professionals in scientific research; they are full-time editors who have not been involved in research for many years and have no understanding of what you are working on. To be honest, editors simply do not understand and cannot evaluate whether your work is suitable for publication in the journal. The decision to reject or accept your submission depends on whether you know influential people or if you are a prestigious individual. That's all there is to it!

Posted on 2021.07.30, the research group submitted to AEM for the first time. Approximately 20 days later, we received the review comments from four reviewers. One of the reviewers, an unknown individual, expressed an indescribable malice and did not approve our submission. It is really difficult for an unknown group to publish an article. The other reviewers were very friendly, and their questions were not difficult to answer. We immediately started to conduct additional experiments and considered how to respond to the reviewers. After less than a month, we wrote a response of nearly 8000 words and decided to resubmit. We would like to thank our editor for giving us another chance. After almost 40 days, we received new review comments. After carefully addressing them, the article was finally accepted. Overall, the reviewers of AEM are extremely professional and rigorous. The questions they raised were meaningful and helped to improve our manuscript.

Posted on July 28, 2021, rejected after editing on September 2, 2021. The status remained "under consideration" throughout the process. Four reviewers (a bit nervous), all rejected. It was my first submission, so I didn't have high expectations, I just wanted to give it a chance. However, it seems that the reviewers placed a lot of emphasis on performance.

There were five reviewers (to be honest, it was a bit nerve-wracking, haha), three rejections, and two revisions. It was my first submission, and I didn't have high hopes. I just wanted to submit it once and experience the beating from a top journal. It was a relatively happy submission experience. I wish AEM continued to improve.

Several familiar foreign groups usually publish around 10 articles per year, which feels like playing. The proportion of Chinese authors is over 30%. The scope and taste of this journal, AEM, are hard to describe. To be blunt, those few domestic experts can get their work accepted easily, but don't even think about it if you come from a less prestigious group.
Agree with comment #23: This journal has a narrow perspective. It's not worth submitting your work if you're not a prominent researcher. They will reject you outright after 7 days, with just one sentence as a reason.
