Because my advisor is the editor-in-chief of a special issue in this journal, I can log in to the system to check the progress of all submissions. I found that there are always more than 700 pending submissions, and the chief editor handles them at a rate of about once a month... processing over a hundred submissions at a time. In addition, the journal has strict formatting requirements, so be sure to carefully read the guide for authors and don't forget the author checklist!! Many submissions are directly rejected due to such reasons. Once they pass the editorial review and enter the peer review process, the cycle is actually quite fast, with replies received in about a month.
