I have previously submitted to JMST and Biomaterials Science, but both were rejected without review. It was quite unexpected for MD to make it to the review stage, and I believe I have put in a lot of work on the article. I'm starting this thread to document the process.

Submitted at the end of September, received feedback for editing at the beginning of October. After making revisions, it was resubmitted for external review, which took nearly two months. The editor waited for two reviewers to complete their reviews (some reviewers have not yet completed their reviews) before providing the revisions. After making the required revisions, it was accepted three days later. Overall, the process went smoothly, except for the long external review period.
