Don't be discouraged, OP. Some reviewers are just like that, irresponsible. Last year, I submitted a work on method innovation to JMCA, and it was rejected almost immediately. They raised a lot of unrelated questions and criticized the lack of innovation, and even asked me to cite 5 specific references. Later, I submitted it to Angew, and it got accepted. I am still grateful for the rejection from the reviewer at that time. So, try submitting to a different journal, you might encounter a reviewer who appreciates and understands your work.
