The first article of my master's degree finally got accepted, which is quite encouraging. It was submitted in early June, edited three days later, reviewed after more than twenty days, and returned for revisions at the end of July. Due to the pandemic, I had to wait until September to resubmit it. Fortunately, it was accepted one week later, and then went through some further revisions. After one year, my thesis has finally been published in ES&T. It has become increasingly difficult to publish in ES&T in my field (drinking water treatment), so I am very fortunate to have been able to publish an article there. The submission process was as follows:
October 25, 2021: Submission
December 13, 2021: Rejected with the option of resubmission. Three reviewers approved the research topic and methods, but felt that more experiments were needed to validate the results. The editor gave a rejection with the opportunity to resubmit within 180 days.
May 20, 2022: Resubmission after supplementary experiments and revisions.
August 29, 2022: Major revision. The editor sent the manuscript back to the original two reviewers and added a new reviewer. The original two reviewers were satisfied with the revisions, but the new reviewer had some suggestions and requested major revisions.
September 14, 2022: Minor revision. One of the reviewers was not satisfied with the response to a particular comment and requested further modifications.
September 28, 2022: Format changes and acceptance pending. Requested some minor formatting adjustments.
September 29, 2022: Accepted.
