目标和范围
Frontiers in Marine Science publishes rigorously peer-reviewed research that advances our understanding of all aspects of the environment, biology, ecosystem functioning and human interactions with the oceans. Field Chief Editor Carlos M. Duarte at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology Thuwal is supported by an outstanding Editorial Board of international researchers. This multidisciplinary open-access journal is at the forefront of disseminating and communicating scientific knowledge and impactful discoveries to researchers, academics, policy makers and the public worldwide.
With the human population predicted to reach 9 billion people by 2050, it is clear that traditional land resources will not suffice to meet the demand for food or energy, required to support high-quality livelihoods. As a result, the oceans are emerging as a source of untapped assets, with new innovative industries, such as aquaculture, marine biotechnology, marine energy and deep-sea mining growing rapidly under a new era characterized by rapid growth of a blue, ocean-based economy. The sustainability of the blue economy is closely dependent on our knowledge about how to mitigate the impacts of the multiple pressures on the ocean ecosystem associated with the increased scale and diversification of industry operations in the ocean and global human pressures on the environment. Therefore, Frontiers in Marine Science particularly welcomes the communication of research outcomes addressing ocean-based solutions for the emerging challenges, including improved forecasting and observational capacities, understanding biodiversity and ecosystem problems, locally and globally, effective management strategies to maintain ocean health, and an improved capacity to sustainably derive resources from the oceans.

This should be the last time submitting to FMS, objectively evaluating this journal.
Because marine science is a niche field, and ecology is even more niche, there are not many journals to choose from. Therefore, from top academicians to small laboratories, in recent years, we have mostly been submitting to open access (OA) journals. This has led to a rise in OA impact factors. To my knowledge, among the well-established journals, only L&O Letters has an impact factor over 5. This includes widely recognized journals like PO, L&O, JO, AGU, ECOSYSTEMS, all of which have been surpassed by Frontiers this year. Among OA journals, major laboratories tend to prefer Water Resources Research, while smaller laboratories tend to prefer journals from MDPI (such as Water and Journal of Marine Science and Engineering). As for the old water journals from before the OA era, such as Deep Sea Research, they seem to have been abandoned both domestically and internationally.
However, if one wants to establish a reputation in the industry, they still need representative works that can be showcased. They should not simply focus on high impact factors. Therefore, my personal ranking is as follows: first, Nature Series (NS), followed by Nature Communications (NC), Science Advances (SA), PNAS or Water Resources (WR), then the top journal in the industry, like L&O, followed by good journals like PO, and then better OA journals like Frontiers and general non-OA journals, and finally journals from MDPI.
Nevertheless, I am grateful to Frontiers. As a beginner and novice-friendly journal, it has been quite accommodating!
