Upper $630,000USD For up to four-year awards, application budget may not exceed US $180,000 for a one-year project, US $360,000 for a two-year project, US $540,000 for a three-year project and US $630,000 for a four-year project. For projects exceeding one year, the budget may not exceed US $225,000 in any year. This amount includes personnel, capital equipment, consumables, materials, services, travel, miscellaneous, and indirect costs as applicable.

The LPI can submit only one application in NPRP-S. The count of an individual’s participation in all on-going projects in NPRP/NPRP-S/NPRP-BSRA/NPRP-C/NPRP-EP as a key investigator (KI) must not exceed three roles, excluding participation in projects ending before October 1, 2021. Previous Co-LPI roles in active NPRP projects are counted as PI roles for this cycle. Up to five PIs are allowed to participate in each proposal Eligibility of Submitting Institution Institutions inside Qatar with approved Research Offices (ROs) are eligible to submit proposals. Authorized Research Office Representatives (ARORs) and other research administrators who are members of the RO are not eligible to participate in any NPRP projects. Eligibility of Lead Principal Investigators (LPIs) The LPI must be affiliated with a submitting institution inside Qatar. They are the individual who own the scientific idea and hence are eligible to apply for an NPRP grant. The LPI may collaborate with other PIs in research organizations located inside or outside Qatar An eligible LPI from academic/research institutions must hold a terminal degree An eligible LPI must have a minimum h-index according to the “research area” of their NPRP-S proposal An LPI from a research end-user entity may not hold a terminal degree, however they must have a track record in managing research/development projects, and a minimum of five publications, peer-reviewed technical reports, or authored patent applications/patents. An LPI awarded from previous NPRP cycles is eligible to submit a renewal application. The total number of applications is restricted by the maximum number of roles allowed for each LPI. Post-doctoral scholars and ECRA awardees are not eligible to act as LPIs

Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) aims to enable research and development excellence in Qatar to achieve a sustainable, diversified economy through the advancement of research and education by providing funding opportunities for original, competitively selected research and development projects. The objective of NPRP-S is to competitively select research projects that will address national priorities through supporting basic and applied research as well as translational research/experimental development. Through this cycle, we intend to stimulate partnerships between academics and research end-users. The NPRP-S aims to focus on meritorious research projects that demonstrate a potential impact on the development of Qatar’s society and economy with an emphasis on: tackling the needs and challenges of the local research end-users; supporting projects with tangible impacts; focusing on subjects that hold strong commercial and technological potential; promoting a public-private partnership culture in Qatar; encouraging a more cross-cutting/interdisciplinary approach to projects; and stimulating scientific excellence and the advancement of knowledge in Qatar. Proposals submitted under NPRP-S (including resubmissions and renewals) are required to align with at least one of the listed priority themes. Energy: Strategic Aim - to support the competitiveness and sustainability of Qatar’s energy sector through the development and deployment of technological solutions. Sustainability of Resources: Strategic Aim - to support the sustainable management of Qatar’s environmental, food and water resources through research and innovative solutions. Health: Strategic Aim - to address the pressing health challenges of Qatar’s population through relevant research and its translation into clinical care outcomes. Society: Strategic Aim - to enhance the nation’s ability to address current and future needs of all communities in Qatar, preserve cultural values and empower the next generation. Digital Technology: Strategic Aim - to develop, adapt and deploy relevant new digital technologies to increase growth and competitiveness of Qatar’s key economic sectors, provide solutions for national challenges and enhance key public services. The priority themes align with the vision of the QRDI 2030 in terms of enabling Qatar to: be resilient and prosperous in the face of challenges through RDI-based solutions and breakthroughs. enhance its standing through cultivating international connections and being a base for RDI talent. drive research and innovation excellence.
