Poster summary

The silica immobilized 1-methyl-3-(4-sulphobutyl) -1H imidazolium tetrachloroaluminate has been synthesised as a heterogeneous catalyst. The catalyst has been confirmed by several characterizations such as IR, SEM-EDX, TGA and DTA. The formed catalyst effectively catalyzed the condensation aromatization reactions between orthophenylene diaminobenzene (OPD) and 4-nitrobenzaldehyde. The catalyst has been the efficient and green catalyst for the low reaction time, room temperature and non-hazardous solvents contained synthesis of benzimidazoles. Further, the turnover frequency decreases with increases in the polarity of the reaction medium recommending the participation of a different kind of mechanism. The optimum reaction condition, simplicity of catalyst preparation and characterization method and reusability reveal the efficiency of Si-BLAIL as a cooperative catalyst.
