Aims and Scope
Protein & Cell publishes original research and review articles concerning the latest developments in
multidisciplinary areas of biology and biomedicine, and has an emphasis on mechanistic studies at the
molecular and cellular levels. Manuscripts with innovative ideas and/or approaches that bridge different
fields are considered with priority. The main subject areas include, but are not limited to,
biochemistry/biophysics, cell biology, developmental biology, genetics, immunology, microbiology,
molecular biology, neuroscience, oncology, plant science, protein science, structural biology, and
translational medicine. Protein & Cell also publishes up-to-date research highlights and commentaries
covering research policies and funding trends in China as well as in other countries.

Take a look at the JCR data of these magazines, and it will be clear at a glance (to calculate the impact factor, you need to log in to the subscription-based website of the school). Many domestic magazines manipulate the impact factor, such as increasing the proportion of reviews (which should normally be between 5-10%, but many domestic magazines can reach 60-70%), increasing the proportion of correspondence/brief communications/letters to the editor (these types of articles only increase the total citations of the magazine but do not appear in the denominator of the article count, so it is another major weapon to increase the impact factor, for example, the proportion of correspondence in magazines like Cell Discovery, Protein and Cell, Cellular and Molecular Immunology, Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy can reach 50%). These magazines have a particularly low annual publication volume (research articles), supplemented by a large number of reviews and a large number of correspondence/brief communications/letters to the editor, which skyrocket the impact factor, but their international influence is very small.

Actually, there is no need for everyone to argue. This journal and Cell Research are of the same type, and they are among the better domestic journals. The articles are also of good quality, which is very useful for job titles and awards in the country. However, domestic journals have a common problem of inflating their impact factors with letters to the editor. It is necessary to remind everyone that a small number of units have already set regulations that letters (excluding Nature's letters) do not count as articles and cannot be used for promotion or awards. In recent years, the number of letter publications in domestic journals has increased significantly, leading to internal competition, and each unit can only raise assessment standards. I believe that this trend will continue to spread in the future.

My advice to everyone is that if an article is rejected from a CNS subjournal and you don't want to go through the trouble again, you can submit it to this journal. However, it is best not to submit letters to the editor.
