PNAS is one of the world's most-cited multidisciplinary scientific serials. I am studying for a Ph.D. in the United States. My advisor is not an academician. The paper was submitted through direct submission in July and was sent for review after 13 days. The external review was completed in less than two weeks. The feedback came back as a rejection because the editor believed that two months would not be enough time to complete the experiments. However, none of the three reviewers provided very negative comments, and the overall preference of the editor was positive. Therefore, we submitted an appeal in September, and the next day PNAS replied that they had received it. In the second week, they replied asking for a point-by-point response. We submitted it at the end of September, and yesterday we received a response from the editor agreeing to revise it extensively within 60 days. I am currently working hard on the experiments, hoping that this revision will be accepted smoothly.
