Aims and Scope
Friction is a peer-reviewed international journal for the publication of theoretical and experimental research works related to the friction, lubrication and wear. Original, high quality research papers and review articles on all aspects of tribology are welcome, including, but are not limited to, a variety of topics, such as:

Friction: Origin of friction, Friction theories, New phenomena of friction, Nano-friction, Ultra-low friction, Molecular friction, Ultra-high friction, Friction at high speed, Friction at high temperature or low temperature, Friction at solid/liquid interfaces, Bio-friction, Adhesion, etc.

Lubrication: Superlubricity, Green lubricants, Nano-lubrication, Boundary lubrication, Thin film lubrication, Elastohydrodynamic lubrication, Mixed lubrication, New lubricants, New additives, Gas lubrication, Solid lubrication, etc.

Wear: Wear materials, Wear mechanism, Wear models, Wear in severe conditions, Wear measurement, Wear monitoring, etc.

Surface Engineering: Surface texturing, Molecular films, Surface coatings, Surface modification, Bionic surfaces, etc.

Basic Sciences: Tribology system, Principles of tribology, Thermodynamics of tribo-systems, Micro-fluidics, Thermal stability of tribo-systems, etc.

Friction is an open access journal. It is published quarterly by Tsinghua University Press and Springer, and sponsored by the State Key Laboratory of Tribology (TsinghuaUniversity) and the Tribology Institute of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society.

In the next life, it's unlikely that it will happen. As for this journal, you could say that it has high requirements. You can tell from the level of the articles and the affiliations. If you say the requirements are not high, then you will be rejected when you submit.

One interesting phenomenon this year is that when our group started having meetings, many of my students reported on articles about Friction. At that time, they were just first-year graduate students. However, half a year later, there were no more articles about Friction in their literature reports. This indicates that the name Friction is still good, and there is a higher chance for newcomers in the field to search for this journal. But after being in the field for some time, they tend not to read it anymore. Instead, there have been more literature reports on International Journal of Fracture, Surface and Coatings Technology, and Applied Surface Science. As for article citations, students generally cite articles that have already been published by our research group and articles they have recently reported on. So the decrease in citation rate is probably related to this.

You're too pessimistic. The field of wear and tribology belongs to niche journals. Originally, there were already Wear, Tribology International, and Tribology Letters, and overall, the submission sources are not large. If this journal increases its publication volume, the impact factor will gradually decrease, and it won't be as difficult to submit in the future. In order to maintain the impact factor, it is necessary to accept many research articles that are popular and have a relatively low threshold. For example, in the past two years, Surface and Coatings Technology and Tribology International have seen a rapid increase in their impact factors by accepting a large number of articles on surface treatment and surface modification. In fact, these articles do not require a high level of theoretical depth in wear and tribology. The main focus is on the characterization of surface treatment methods and material organization. However, the threshold for acceptance is relatively low, which attracts many researchers and leads to a significant number of citations.
