Description
USAID/Ecuador is committed to supporting Ecuadorian leadership by prioritizing programs thatincentivize reforms, strengthen country capacity, and mobilize domestic resources. “Externaldevelopment aid is more likely to catalyze sustained development processes when they reinforce acountry’s internally determined development priorities (country ownership) and arrangements (localsystems) (Source: usaid.gov/policy/local-systems-framework). This frames the need for LocalOwnership. Furthermore, for results to sustain, one needs to engage the local system as a whole -government, civil society, and the private sector - with a focus on the local actors, theirinterrelationship and the incentives that guide them (Ibid., p. 4). Local ownership and local systemsare the foundation for sustainable development and hence, self-reliance.
