Grant Size
Upper £1,350,000GBP Lower £90,000GBP This scheme offers 10 grants worth £1.35 million each over six years. Each grant funds 15 scholarships, with 5 scholarships to be offered each year over the first three years of the grant. Each scholarship is worth £90,000 over four years and covers maintenance at research council levels, tuition fees and research and training expenses.

Graduate students wishing to pursue doctoral study, individual doctoral students and groups or consortia of universities are not eligible to apply. Supporting UK and EU students is particularly encouraged.
Description
The Leverhulme Trust invites applications for its doctoral scholarships. These enable UK universities to award full-time doctoral scholarships in a priority area for the institutions. The following research is ineligible:
- studies of disease, illness and disabilities in humans and animals;
- research that is intended to inform clinical practice or the development of medical applications;
- research areas currently identified as a priority by the research councils or other significant public funders;
- policy-driven research where the principal objective is to assemble an evidence base for immediate policy initiatives;
- research where advocacy is an explicit component;
- research aimed principally at an immediate commercial application;
- proposals in which the balance between assembling a data bank or database and the related subsequent research is heavily inclined to the former.
