Journal

Commented on mBio
mBio is an excellent open-access microbiology journal with a broad scope that includes all aspects of microbiology as well as related fields: immunology, ecology, environmental sciences. The journal encourages submission of manuscripts that are of interest to the entire microbiology community (thus not being suitable for specific microbiology fields more directed to very applied and industrial applications). With its high impact factor of 6.747 in 2019, this is a journal that can pride both, on being well placed in microbiology rankings and of providing top-quality research to its readers. This journal is published by the American Society for Microbiology and its editor in chief, Arturo Casadevall, is a highly recognized Professor working in the fields of molecular microbiology, immunology, and infectious diseases, with a keen interest in fungal pathogenesis and host-fungal interactions. The editorial board of mBio consists of almost 200 editors, which provides an exquisite opportunity to suggest a highly specialized editor with the best knowledge on your field of research. I personally have had three submissions in this journal, once accepted, the second one now in resubmission with minor comments and the third one under review. My personal experience with the editors and journal staff has been extremely positive. There’s a very rapid response from the editor who will assess in approximately 1-2 weeks whether or not the content of the submitted research is a good fit for the journal, and if so, the manuscript is assigned to the reviewers who will provide a decision on approximately 1 month (on that note it is important to mention here that one of our manuscripts was hold for 2 months in a process involving a back and forward between the editor and the reviewers). We have been very pleased as well with the quality of the reviewers that the editors have assigned to our manuscripts. Comments on our research have always been fair and well accompanied by interesting suggestions that once incorporated, enriched the quality of our work. Altogether, this is a highly recommended journal for those fitting its scope.
