Commented on Microbial Biosensors for Organophosphate Pesticides
This paper is a decade old but it still provides a great framework for how to use microbes (along with chemical titration) to detect and possibly eliminate hazardous compounds

Article

Commented on Accurate classification of cherry fruit using deep CNN based on hybrid pooling approach
I can imagine the cost of specialty produce will decrease over time as we replace human cherry-pickers (ha) with AI-based solutions

Article

Commented on Anatomy of adult Megaphragma (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae), one of the smallest insects, and new insight into insect miniaturization
Just watched the SciShow video about these wasps (https://youtu.be/jb5Q-wQh4GI). Super cool how small insects can get!!

Article

Commented on Eviction, Health Inequity, and the Spread of COVID-19: Housing Policy as a Primary Pandemic Mitigation Strategy
It is sad that people with comorbidities are the most likely to be evicted during the pandemic. I hope that once eviction bans are lifted in the largest population states these people will be healthy and able to pay back their rent... but it will probably be yet another controversial political disaster.

Article

Commented on Core Concept: Blockchain offers applications well beyond Bitcoin but faces its own limitations
It feels like I learn something new about blockchain technology every day. The applications continue to grow, as do the number of unique blockchains in existence

Article

Commented on Termite-resistant heartwood. Effect of antioxidants on termite feeding deterrence and mortality
Perhaps gut microbiota have an impact on termite feeding preference and/or deterrence?

Article

Commented on Altering the Gut Microbiome of Cattle: Considerations of Host-Microbiome Interactions for Persistent Microbiome Manipulation
This is great step forward for determining how to manipulate microbiomes for environmental impact. Hopefully we can engineer a way for cattle to require/waste less feed, or better yet produce less methane!

Article

Commented on The proximal origin of SARS-CoV-2
So many conspiracies yet nobody decided to read this paper 🤔 thank you for your hard work!!

Article

Commented on Termite mounds mitigate half of termite methane emissions
Huge implications for climate change. Most people aren't aware, but termites are responsible for a significant portion of methane emissions

Article

Commented on Epidemiological characteristics, safety and efficacy of medical cannabis in the elderly
Incredibly promising field that still has room to grow! Especially for the reduction of other medications with potentially harmful side effects

Article

Commented on The Walnuts and Healthy Aging Study (WAHA): Protocol for a Nutritional Intervention Trial with Walnuts on Brain Aging
Would other tree nuts with antioxidants and polyphenols have a similar impact as walnuts in this study?

Article

Commented on Strong Social Distancing Measures In The United States Reduced The COVID-19 Growth Rate
We still prevented tens of millions of COVID cases last year!! Good job everybody

Article

Commented on Multiple Insecticide Resistance: An Impediment to Insecticide-Based Malaria Vector Control Program
Multiple resistance is an ever increasing problem to this day. Not just in mosquitoes, but in all insect pests!

Article

Commented on Characterization and engineering of a two-enzyme system for plastics depolymerization
This looks really awesome. Might save the world one day!! Great manuscript

Article

Commented on Utilizing smart-meter data to project impacts of urban warming on residential electricity use for vulnerable populations in Southern California
Obviously SoCal is a great area of climate ranges to test this hypothesis on, but I am also curious how this would play out in more humid environments like the midwest and southeast
